LaLiga is working to have the Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid match on December played in Miami, United States.
LaLiga needs to secure approval from the Spanish Football Federation,UEFA, and FIFA, before they can move on with their plans to have the match played in Miami.
They’re currently seeking permission from FIFA,UEFA, Spanish Football Federation, which will assess the logistical, regulatory, and financial aspects of hosting the match abroad.
Why LaLiga wants to host Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid match in Miami?
According to LaLiga, they believe playing in Miami could expand LaLiga’s reach and engage fans.
The move will also aim to promote the league’s international presence and capitalize on the growing popularity of football in the United States.
This isn’t LaLiga’s first attempt to hold a domestic match abroad. In 2018, there was plans to move a Barcelona vs Girona match to the U.S. but the plans was aborted due to opposition from FIFA, UEFA and the Spanish Football Federation.
Approval from these organizations is all that’s needed for the match to hold. This could see Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid match become first LaLiga match to be held abroad.
Where will Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid match be played?
According to LaLiga, the match is scheduled for December 22nd, 2024 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
Sources in the United States expects the change to be approved, which would be a historic event.
