Chelsea remains only team to win Real Madrid at the Bernabeu

In the 2022 Champions League Quarter finals, Chelsea faced Real Madrid in a thrilling two legged encounter. Chelsea remains the only team to beat Real Madrid in the Bernabeu in the Champions League, a notable achievement their history.

In the first leg, Benzima’s hat-trick gave Madrid a significant edge over the Blues, with the match ending 1-3 in favor of the visitors. Kai harvertz scored a consolation goal for Chelsea, showing their determination despite the setback.

Chelsea started the second leg strong, with goals from Mount, Rudiger and Werner putting them in a commanding position. However, it was a rollercoaster of emotions for the Blues in that match, the way they thought they had it in the bag, only for Madrid to stage late comeback and break their hearts. The late goals from Rodrygo in the 80th minute and Benzima in the 90+6 sealed their fate.

Chelsea however won the match 2-3 at the Bernabeu but failed to secure a place in the semifinals as they lost on 4-5 aggregates. Chelsea became victims of Real Madrid’s late comebacks in recent years.

The match did not only highlight Chelsea’s resilience, but also showed Real Madrid’s ability to perform under pressure.
